The Eastside Human Services facility brings together sustainability, community-centric design and a humane approach to creating a secure building. It serves thousands of Denver’s neediest families, creating a bright spot within one of Denver’s historically underserved, inner-ring neighborhoods. The building is sited to optimize solar orientation as well as respect existing single-family homes in the area. Folding roofs extend to provide shade to lobby spaces and lift the building’s form in a welcoming gesture to the neighborhood. The building balances security and safety while providing a positive visitor experience, creating a people-centric, rather than security-centric building.
Eastside Human Services is an exemplar of sustainability. The finished project exceeded all expectations for environmental stewardship. Daylighting solutions create vibrant office environments while minimizing lighting costs. On-site water treatment systems clean storm water passively. Under-floor air provides a healthier indoor environment, and a sloping roof is optimized for the addition of a photovoltaic array in the future.
The eastside Human Services Facility combines sustainability expertise with holistic design to create a lasting point of pride for the city of Denver and the surrounding community.
