In the Al Ghadeer community, RNL was commissioned to design the character, architectural concept and landscape architecture for two blocks of mixed-use retail and residential buildings. The central idea was to create an outdoor shopping corridor to enhance the visitor’s experience and provide a district focus.
The street character was expressed with an iconic translucent shade structure running the length of the two-block district, providing filtered shade and aesthetically pleasing visual interest to comfort shoppers walking along the street. RNL proposed a generous sidewalk and angled street parking for access and shopping convenience adjacent to a five-meter building arcade. The proposal includes provisions for ample cafe space and retail entry identity, space for seating and planters, clear wayfinding and signage space, lighting effects for use in the evening, and safe navigation between cars and the store fronts.
