This Boulder, Colorado internet company headquarters facility was designed to reflect a corporation which maintains a world-class excellence in internet systems and network management, as well as a culture which values the integration of play, pets and exercise within the workplace. RNL Design responded to the challenge by providing an Advanced Technology Showroom, Machine Room, Network Operations Center and Usability Lab of very high quality at the front door and a more deconstructed “back of house” for the employees. The goal of the design was to impress clients with the advanced technology capabilities, as well as entice employees with amenities such as game room, exercise rooms, thinking libraries, quiet rooms, team spaces, mobile furniture and provisions for pets.

Another challenge facing the design team was the lack of organizational structure. The design had to be completely flexible given that any team may be required to work in any area of the building depending on the project or project phase. This criterion led to an innovative design using all mobile furniture anchored by white board fins used to secure the circulation paths. In addition to mobile furniture, the exposed structure, non-traditional materials used for ceilings, floors and wall finishes, combined with a two-story sandstone wall, reflect an extraordinary facility for a very non-traditional corporation.
