The design challenge for the UMB Executive office suite was to develop a contemporary, executive look that would complement adjacent offices while standing on its own. In addition, the client had an art collection to incorporate into the design of the space in a seamless fashion.

The solution began by enclosing the open air balcony which faced the public atrium to create an office suite. While that structure was created with modern materials of aluminum and glass, the interior walls of the suite were wrapped with oak paneling giving the space warmth and character. Equipment and filing was concealed in custom millwork to emphasis the entire space as sculpture.

Lighting within suite, and temperature control were also major challenges that were collaboratively solved between the interior design team and the engineers. The design provides the most functional electrical and HVAC solution, while maintaining a low visual profile. Lighting was designed to showcase the space and the art, rather than attract attention to the fixtures. Furniture was then specified to epitomize the essence of the classic modern interior. The resulting space is a seamless expansion of their offices, meeting their objectives while providing an innovative and inspiring workplace.
