BUS FACILITIES

Emil 'Lucky' Reznik Bus Operations & Maintenance Facility

SOUTH BEND, INDIANA

From the start, sustainability and long-term costs were of the utmost importance to TRANSPO when it came to the design of this facility. Designed to meet the agency’s future needs, operational and life-cycle cost efficiencies are inherent in the building’s design and material selections. Daylighting allows natural light to penetrate deep into the facility, reducing the need for artificial light. The impact on the city’s storm sewer is negated because stormwater is retained to percolate and recharge the aquifer and create several native ecologies. The result is a timeless, award winning project that reduces direct operating costs while increasing service – and the first facility of its kind in the U.S. to earn LEED-NC Platinum certification.
