TRANSIT CENTERS

LA METRO el monte transit center

EL MONTE, CALIFORNIA

This two-level bus station replaces an aged, undersized and highly problematic facility that had no feasible means of expansion. In developing the overall guiding design principles for the project, RNL was inspired by the physical transformation of the city bus over the last century from a block-like form to the more fluid, smooth form predominant today. This concept is realized in the iconic shape of the grand entry roof canopy, building forms, plaza and platform shelters, which references the civic presence and positive image exemplified by transit stations of the past. The design also offers increased passenger safety and sustainable elements that have the facility on track to earn LEED Gold certification.
