The 222,000-sf Research Support Facility (RSF) is a significant building for U.S. Department of Energy and National Renewable Energy Laboratory, designed to demonstrate how high-performance buildings can be aesthetically compelling and acquired at a competitive first- and life-cycle costs. Not only is it LEED-NC Platinum certified, it is on course to be the first net-zero energy building of its kind. The RSF demonstrates the integration of high-performance design features and practices, showcases technology advances, and captures the public’s imagination for renewable and energy efficient technologies. RNL and Haselden Construction selected for this design-build project following a multi-stage design competition.
