John Yonushewski

COO/Board Member
Commercial Market Principal

John Yonushewski is a Principal, Board Member and Chief Operating Officer and brings more than three decades of experience in design and construction to his role at RNL. As COO, John manages the daily operations and finances of RNL that cover the gamut from strategic planning to keeping the lights on. Although John is responsible for revenue and profitability tracking, he also understands the need to maintain a work hard/play hard culture that is fun and professionally rewarding for the RNL staff. He enjoys challenges and problem solving, which usually involves seeing all of the disparate issues and data and resolving them into actionable tasks.

John has been a great source of information and guidance to RNL Board and staff since joining the firm in 2011. Perhaps his greatest strength as a leader comes from his deep understanding of our goals and our unique approach at RNL. John joined RNL with a broad range of architectural, construction and development experience, specializing in Architect‐led, single source project delivery on a wide range of large scale residential and adaptive reuse projects. He has personally designed and overseen the construction of projects in excess of $100 million and has a strong background in urban‐infill, mixed-use building types. Throughout his career, John has earned a number of awards for his work, including on projects such as Capital Grille and One Lincoln Park. His recent marquee projects at RNL include 100 Steele, 21st & Welton, and Lakehouse.

Prior to joining RNL, Yonushewski co-founded BYG Architects with Brad Buchanan in 1998. The firm’s portfolio included a variety of multifamily, senior housing and mixed-use residential projects. His notable projects there included One Lincoln Park, Watertower Lofts, Pinnacle Park Homes at City Park South, Silver State Lofts, and 1099 Osage.

In addition to his leadership responsibilities with RNL, John regularly lends his expertise to a variety of national industry publications and has dedicated his time to furthering the profession through active service to the AIA, where he was named a Fellow in 2009. John’s perfect day is sailing on the lake in his sailboat with friends and family and immersing himself in a design project at work.
