Maintenance facility improves city's facilities and services for its citizens with innovative, interactive, and creative approaches.
City of Glendale
As part of the City of Glendale overall plan to improve its facilities and services to its citizens, the City is developing a new bus operations, maintenance, and compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling facility. The comprehensive facility will improve operations by locating all functions on one campus sharing a site with the historic Glendale Transportation Center depot. The design team utilized an innovative, interactive, and creative approach to make efficient use of the 3 acre site to allow room for the city’s feet to grow well into the future. The facility has been designed to take advantage of sustainable architecture, which will include day lighting, solar shading, energy efficient building systems, photovoltaic panels, and local and recycled content resources.
A tandem bus parking yard and carefully orchestrated bus traffic flow as well as the combined operations, administration, and maintenance functions under a single roof makes for efficient use of a small site. The building is designed to block noise from adjacent sensitive uses and to fit into a historic and residential area. Employee wellness is encouraged through built in walking paths, vegetable gardens, and citrus tree landscape design.
