Shams Abu Dhabi will be a landmark project within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The project master plan utilizes all of the important planning techniques and methods to provide for a high quality, high-density, urban development, and provide its residents with an outstanding lifestyle environment throughout the project. The goals set by the developer for the project were to provide a sustainable development, offering places for people to live, work, and enjoy recreation and leisure activities without necessarily relying on personal automobile transportation within the project.

The plan is bold, totally functional, unique, and certainly unlike any other major urban development master plan. The plan recognizes the special quality of the site, the views, the constraints of island development, provides for the solution of transportation issues, and provides a viable plan for the environmental restoration of the existing, distressed mangrove area. Shams Abu Dhabi is an inviting community that enhances Abu Dhabi and addresses the challenges and needs of the 21st Century.
