Edwin A. Bemis Public Library
LITTLETON, COLORADO
Situated in the midst of a beautiful suburban park, the Bemis Public Library is composed of two structures. Before this two-phased expansion and renovation project, the existing complex was awkward and inflexible. Phase 1 additions and reconstructions included new interior layouts, signage, finishes and technological upgrades. Using the existing library as an architectural background, the Phase 2 addition enlivened the entry, added a coffee bar and teen area and created space for a center for the blind and renovated circulation desk. These spaces are filled with daylight, filtered from direct sunlight and glare by using colorful contemporary glass patterns.
