Founded in 1956, RNL is an integrated design firm specializing in sustainable design for civic, corporate, higher education, hospitality, mixed-use/urban development/TOD, religious and transportation projects.

In October 2006, RNL was named eighth among the top 20 Best Architecture Firms to Work For in the U.S. by Zweig White, a leading industry consultant. Since its inception, the firm has been recognized with more than 200 awards, including 2001 Firm of the Year by three different chapters of the American Institute of Architects.

Commitment to Sustainable Design

Environmentally responsible architecture is a strategy for reducing the environmental impact of the entire building and construction process. The goal is to live lightly on the earth, protecting the planet's resources for the future generations.

RNL encourages all of its staff to pursue LEED accreditation, and at present, more than half of its design staff has achieved that designation. The 60+ number of LEED APs continues to grow through the internal efforts of RNL's "Green Team", which helps develop and implement sustainability initiatives. RNL is committed to designing all of its projects to meet, at a minimum, LEED certification levels as set by the US Green Building Council, whether the project pursues formal certification or not.

RNL has designed its own new headquarters to meet LEED Gold certification. RNL has also committed to adopting the 2030 Challenge and has begun a process to measure our carbon footprint with the intent of becoming a carbon neutral company.

The firm's offices are powered by 100% renewable energy in the form of Green-e certified Renewable Energy Certificates.

Our Sustainable Design Efforts for Projects

We have completed or are working on more than 4.5 million square feet of sustainably designed projects. Of this number, more than 2.5 million square feet of space meets, at a minimum, LEED certified standards.

Design Philosophy

RNL specializes in using the power of design to solve unique projects while incorporating input from multiple stakeholders, addressing multi-faceted challenges and synthesizing a holistic built solution. Our goal is to create a meaningful and memorable sense of place while respecting the social and environmental context.
