Work[place] 2010 was a project designed
to offer insight into how the typical workplace might look in the
future. The space anticipated and addressed factors which will impact
how and where people work in the next decade and took the form of
a working "laboratory" for office space design.
RNL Design and OfficeScapes/Scott Rice,
a Denver-based Steelcase dealership, created a non-profit organization
to develop this working laboratory which was located in downtown
Denver. The 6,700 square foot space was structured to enable individuals
and/or groups to meet, work and learn in the space. Open to the
public through tours and events for nearly a year, the space served
as a fully functional office and interactive resource center.
Work[place]2010 demonstrated how the
nature of work is changing, how technology is integrated into the
workplace and processes, and how business strategies, organizational
behavior and change management strategies can be integrated into
workplace designs and construction.
Some of the key features of the project
included highly flexible spaces, plug and play environments, centralized
technology controls and activity-based zones. Close to 4,000 individuals
and more than 200 organizations visited the space. The project gained
national attention in the media, highlighted in publications such
as Interiors & Sources, Architecture & Engineering Quarterly
and Presenting Communications.
